A regional resource that connects, supports, and strengthens nonprofit organizations and coalitions advancing climate, clean energy, conservation, and environmental justice across New England.
The EJ Hub emerged from a 2023 regional convening brought together with Communities First Fund, One Rhode Consulting, ACE, Grassroots Fund, RAD, and others. The Barr Foundation catalyzed that convening and has been the primary funder driving the creation and ongoing work of the EJ Hub — their partnership and sustained commitment make this work possible and allows us to provide support at no cost to organizations and coalitions. Additional strategic support has been provided by the Elmina B. Sewall Foundation, Merck Family Fund, and The Funders Network.
We know how busy organizations are. So we track philanthropic opportunities, technical assistance, and capacity-building resources so that when organizations are ready, they know what is available to help them move their work forward.
A new pilot initiative launching in partnership with Alliance for Tribal Clean Energy (ATCE) to support Tribal Nations and Indigenous-serving organizations across New England in developing and leading clean energy projects in their communities.
A 12-month peer learning and capacity-building program run in partnership with Conservation Capacity Project, offering stipends, pro bono consulting, and peer networking to participating organizations.
Upon request, we support national, regional, and state efforts that align with EJ Hub goals in an effort to connect more New England organizations, coalitions, and Indigenous communities to resources that can help advance their projects. A recent example includes supporting New England organizations' participation in a national clean energy power-building cohort.
Connects funders to promising community-led projects, helps national organizations build New England relationships, and serves as a thought partner on emerging regional needs.
Small awards to help defray the costs of community meetings and events focused on environmental justice issues and projects, so grassroots groups can continue to gather and organize. Recent examples include supporting coalition events in Maine, Connecticut, and Massachusetts.
We support nonprofit organizations and coalitions advancing climate, clean energy, and environmental justice projects and policies in New England communities — including urban, rural, and Indigenous communities. We also partner with funders and technical assistance providers seeking to engage meaningfully in the region.
We are grateful to Communities First Fund for bringing New England stakeholders together and hosting the 2023 regional convening to raise awareness of federal funding available at that time. While the EJ Hub has since shifted its focus away from navigating communities to federal funding, we continue to work alongside communities facing environmental justice challenges — connecting them to resources, relationships, and opportunities that can help move their work forward.
